Thaddeus David - Maven

Filled with a combination of beats Thad dug up via the internets and random beat happenings, coupled with a handful of original jams from the likes of Ski Team, Tele Fresco, Kuddie Fresh, DJ Semaj & Jester. The guests are few, long time SEA microphone rep Onry Ozzborn shows up twice. Thaddeus’ teammate Parker held down a hook. Otherwise this is strictly a affair for Mr. David. Here he is shedding away something, freeing himself up and giving you just a hint of what he is about. I remember him playing some solo cuts of his on tour and needless to say I'm glad he has put it out with Members Only. Congrats!

DON'T TALK TO THE COPS!

I am happy to announce that we have a new addition to Out For Stardom! Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome DON'T TALK TO THE COPS! to our family and imprint. It was pretty much a no brainer for us to get behind this project which embraces everything that we are about: being original, pushing boundaries, and grinding non-stop. DtttC! are a part of Mash Hall and there has always been a sense of family and community within, which is exactly how we operate. Over the past few years, it has been great to get to know them as not only musicians, but also as people. In the ever increasing roles of the do-it-yourself artist, they are a great addition to our roster as we look to expand and grow in the future. A lot of the best music coming out of Seattle is a member of OFS and we are going to continue to bring attention and support to those bands that we think you should be paying attention to. Go hard, party smart. Love Family, indeed.

Don’t Talk To The Cops! have just finished recording tracks for their 2nd album, Let's Quit, due out on Valentine's Day 2012. The release pairs deceptively simple lyrics, themes, and break-beats with heart-attack inducing electro-punk-hop production. Let's Quit showcases the talents of djblesOne and emecks along with guests OCnotes (Metal Chocolates), Rachel Ratner (Partman Parthorse/Butts), and Hollywood Holt (Chocolate Industries). djblesOne is an accomplished dj/producer whose influential productions and DJ mixes have helped shape the last decade of b-boy culture. His partner in crime, emecks, clocks in at only half his height but her larger than life style and pro dance moves bring outsized attitude to this dynamic duo. Their combined dance vision is abetted by hype man El Mizell, providing backup vocals and pops of energy to an already tight live setup.

DON'T TALK TO THE COPS! - Swag Treated Treated Swag by djblesOne

To help celebrate this glorious day, please enjoy a free download & video of the song "Swag Treated Treated Swag" off of Let's Quit. This song is especially meaningful to all of us because it was the theme song on the last Mad Rad/Mash Hall tour. Literally every night after leaving the venue, all 7 of us would pile into the stretched out white van, turn this on to full blast, and bang our heads straight for the entirety of the song. Most nights, it stayed on loop until we arrived at the hotel and it was an ultimate pick me up for whoever needed one. We hope it does the same for you!

Let's Quit release show is Saturday, February 4th at The Baltic Room with Portland duo Purple & Green.

Lil Woody's will be celebrating the album by adding a Don't Talk To The Cops! "Murderburger" to the menu from February 4th through February 13th.

Don't Talk To The Cops! Let's Quit will be available on iTunes and in stores on Tuesday, February 14th.

Shaolin Jazz

Classic bop recordings with Wu-Tang acapellas? Sign me up! I think these guys did a great job of not only finding samples and records that work well with the lyrics, but ones that also embrace them. It's not just some boring 4 bar jazzy beat loops but whole records in place of the original Wu instrumentals. CLICK HERE to download.

I am pretty sure that this mixtape had to be inspired by these works by Logan Walters. To see more of the Blue Note inspired Wu-Tang album covers CLICK HERE.

Zebra Katz 'Imma Read'

Zebra katz - Ima Read from Mad Decent on Vimeo.

Fresh from self releasing his lo-fi mixtape “CHAMPAGNE”, ZEBRA KATZ serves you his debut release, Ima Read feat. Njena Reddd Foxxx on Mad Decent’s Jeffree’s Imprint. Pulling from a multimedia /performance art background, Zebra Katz brings a slo-mo dark delivery to his rhymes set over a the minimal unencumbered beat on “Ima Read”.But what does “Ima Read” even mean? Simply put, “reading” is an old voguing term describing someone verbally insulting an opponent about something not so apparent to the average viewer. A good reader could tear you apart with one simply sentence.

Future Detroit Sounds. That pretty sums up what I have have to say about the new Floyd Campbell mix, containing 100% all original productions and giving a glimpse in what to expect from him in the future. Hailing from Los Angles and dropping his debut EP on Body High this coming spring, Mr. Campbell looks to be an artist to watch in 2012.

MSHVB "Gone Again"

A gorgeous vibrantly colored short film by Mt. St. Helen's Vietnam Band returning from a brief hiatus. This video based on their last album "Where The Messengers Meet" was shot in the Olympic Mountains and includes the songs Gone Again and Cadence. The visuals alone are striking and epic. The smooth crooning of Benjamin Verdoes keep your eyes and mind focused on all the subtleties. I want this to be a full length film! The band has been recording their new album which I am overly excited for and are playing a show April 5th at Neumos.

Mr. Seventh Heaven himself had this to say:

"Tristan did a fantastic job of bringing the characters from the story to life. We met several times and discussed the narrative. I gave him sections, timelines, and diagrams to sift through. He chose a scene that he wanted to interpret, and then spent an incredible amount of time and effort making what is essentially a short film depicting a pivotal moment in the Where the Messengers Meet tale. He cast actors, scouted the entire Olympic Peninsula region searching for the perfect shooting locations from the Northwest Raptor Center in Sequim to the Hoh Rainforest Trust west of Forks. The majority of the cast involved were non-actors from Port Angeles who were excited to get behind his ambitious vision and after a soaking wet three-day expedition, the project was completed. Hopefully, we will work together to fill out other scenes from the story in the near future."

I made this gif last week. For some reason it makes me smile.

MLK County

Happy Martin Luther King day to everyone! A great day to celebrate a man who did so much for the civil rights movement and lived an entirely too short life. I just found out that King County, the county I live in, was changed to honor him in 1986. I'm so glad they did, I couldn't imagine embracing this beautiful city as much as I do if they hadn't. The original guy was such a fucking douche bag. READ HERE

Moonrise Kingdom Trailer

Wes Anderson is at it again..

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, MOONRISE KINGDOM tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore -- and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle. Bruce Willis plays the local sheriff. Edward Norton is a Khaki Scout troop leader. Bill Murray and Frances McDormand portray the young girl's parents. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as the boy and girl.

Fresh Espresso x Caffe Vita

You can now go into any Caffe Vita and pick up your very own postcard record of Fresh Espresso's single "Show Me How You Do". It is simply fitting to collab the two together. I'm going to go pick up mine with a huge cup of coffee.. err shot of espresso.

Truckasauras Rooftop

"Dingus and the Buttf***s" Live at the Lo-Fi, Seattle WA from sauco on Vimeo.

Over the summer Octopus Fest happened at LoFi, Black Lodge, and Victory. An all day music festival that I was lucky enough to be a part of. This video is a gorgeous interpretation of what happened that early evening. Truckasauras was rocking out on LoFi's rooftop at dawn as the sun was setting behind the Needle. I just finally got to see the video and I must say I was very thankful to be DJing all night after this set. I didn't want to help unload gear down that treacherous ladder hole in the roof! I would have broke one of their many many pieces of gear. I want to play on a roof!

Nightvisions

NIGHTVISIONS from Christian Palmer on Vimeo.

A new short film by Christian Palmer, commissioned by Cairo Seattle for exhibition at Expo 89.

This film was created over a series of three evenings, and all of the dialogue is improvised. We shot with two iPhones and a little Kodak HD camera that I borrowed from Linas Phillips.

The actors drank a lot of beer but we all held hands and I cast spells on them and waved burning sage in their faces and demanded wrestling, tackling, piggyback rides, yelling, and lighting fireworks- everything you do when you meet someone new and fun.

Natalia Fabia

Very talented Natalia Fabia blows my mind away with her work, its so beautiful and realistic. She has her first solo exhibit Jan. 14- Feb 11 at Jonathan Levine Gallery in New York City.

"Her work has been featured in numerous gallery exhibitions including Thinkspace Gallery, M Modern and The Shooting Gallery. She has been featured in Angeleno, Juxtapoz, and New York Arts magazine as well as appearances on Miami Ink, Fox 11 News and Indie 103.1."

Hype Williams 'One Nation'

Photobucket

Last week I (finally..) stumbled on to Roy Blunt (aka Roy Nnawuchi) and Inga Copeland, a duo from Hackney and Estonia that are the psychedelic redefinition of lo-fi known as Hype Williams. Enigmatic and deliberately elusive, their name was blatantly stolen from famed video director and their style defies any attempt at traditional classification. It is an impossible puzzle of low quality sounds, twisted rhythms, electronic noise, slices of pop culture and acid humour which against all the odds, has received unceasing acclaim from the specialist critics. The LP I have been into the most is "One Nation', released on Hippos In a Tank is a testament to the term bedroom producer. Also have been feeling there most recent release on Kode 9's Hyperdub label. Entitled Kelly Price w8 gain ep vol II is a great continuation in the vein of not only their established and quirky musical style, but also their zero-day pop-culture-rip-off naming policy. Gwan.

Flosstradamus 'Total Recall'

Photobucket

I havent heard much from Chicago duo Flosstradamus since somewhere back in '09. I had always been a fan of there stuff back in the day when they first started floating around with their quirky edits and remixes. To kick of the new year, following the release of their Jubulation EP on Fools Gold last month,  they dropped this free single and video today entitled 'Total Recall'. A Trance Traphouse affair, with epic breakdowns, hardcore Rotterdam Rob Gee kick drums and lion-hearted, enchanted lady from the sea vocals. Check out the free download and video below. Everything from raving in Ibiza to Toyko drifting.
